We try to go in the off season but this year we decided to invite the grandparents and have Christmas at Vail. And other than the hurt the trip put on my wallet it was the time of our life. The grandparents are aging in there mid 80's so i was initially worried about them getting around town, but they had no problem. I would recommend Vail to anybody. Just don't forget your wallet. Vail was THE best ski trip i have ever had! Reviewed by ntfbball on Mar 13, 2010 ![]() You know this place is awesome when people complain it's too big i mean seriosuly but anyway we had an awesome time at Vail, if you are an experienced skier go to the back bowls and blue sky basin, there's less lift lines and its all blacks and blues. Family skiing wise i would recommend beaver creek. Overall the best ski trip at the best ski resort in the world! Still the best, closest mountain to Denver Reviewed by mtngirljen on Apr 3, 2009 ![]() Yes, the tickets are expensive. Yes, you have to pay to park. Yes, people there can be very snotty and rude, whether they are from another country or are Vail Valley residents. But Vail is twice as big as any other resort in Colorado. They get a lot of snow and have so much terrain to ride, you'll never got bored, no matter how many times you go. I admit, my first time there sucked. It is HUGE. I didn't know my way around and I felt like I rode cat tracks all day. This mountain is best for intermediate to advanced skiers and riders. And if your high altitude legs are too wimpy to walk to the lifts (DEFinitely NOT a mile), go somehwere else. There are always too many people in the lift lines anyways. Another note, if you go to any Colorado ski resort in March, it's going to be busier than usual. It's called spring break. All in all, as a Colorado Front Range resident, I give it 4 stars because I just can't help the fact that I love to hate Vail. Vail was a major disappointment!!! Reviewed by COSnowboardingDiva on Mar 24, 2009 ![]() Well, I finally broke down and spent $97 for lift ticket to ride the "fabulous" Vail Mountain and what a disappointment it was!! Not only was the lift ticket $97 for one day but we had to pay upwards of $20 to park (depending on the lot) and then had to lug our gear for what felt like a mile to the base area! That was disappointment #1!! Disappointment #2... We heard that if you visit Vail during the week the lift lines would be shorter. We ended up having to wait in at every lift for at least 30 minutes and sometimes longer. Disappointment #3...Although the mountain is vast, for someone skiing a single day, it was just too difficult to see the whole mountain. We spent the entire day trying to get to the back bowls and once we got there, it was time to head back down because it was so late in the day. I do have to give it to Vail for their marketing... they convinced me it was worth spending well over $100 (including parking) to spend a day there. Now at least I know it's definitely not worth the money and can pass this info on to my friends and family before they fall into the same trap. Thanks Vail! Our best skiing experience in Colorado Reviewed by LenucaP on Jan 3, 2009 ![]() The Vail experience is just amazing. The mountain is vast and a variety of terrains is mind blowing. Everything is well maintained and groomed. You can easily spend a week there and never ride the same trail again. If you have limited time, make sure to experience the Back Bowls - take the Sleepy Time trail from lifts 4, or 5 or 11 and enjoy the scenery. The Back Bowls is a huge open area where pretty much every piece of the mountain is a trail - you can ski with your eyes closed ; ) Here's the review of the ski areas in Vail. Pluses: + grand size and variety - open spaces, paths through the evergreen trees, etc. + great groom + best signage - everything is well marked and the lifts are numbered + multitude of long trails + easy parking and close proximity to the mountain - no need in taking a shuttle + easy parking and close proximity to the mountain - no need in taking a shuttle Minuses: - crowded at the lifts during the weekends or holidays, in general felt like there were not enough lifts for the resort of that size (you can see the size of line in the photo to the left), sometimes it took us up to 40 min to stand in line - most expensive tickets so far - all lifts except for the main gondola are open (for that price Vail could do something more fancy) - size overwhelms you if you come for just one day - we got really greedy trying to see everything - I guess our problem, not the mountain's ; ) Can't comment about the food, since had no time for it - we were too greedy to ski. |
